Preparation and procedure |
“STAR STICK” GAME
Aim : To practice
reading comprehension
Preparation : A
set of question cards, a reading text, a set of star sticks
Organization : Group work/pair
work
Procedures
students discuss the questions |
1. Ask
students to work in pair. Each pair will get a set of question card and
star sticks (based on the number of questions). They read and discuss the
whole questions with his/her partner.
2. Tell
students that each pair will have a runner and a secretary. So, they decide who
will be the runner (find the answer) and who will be the
secretary. The runner will run to a text, find the answer of each question, and
dictate/tell the answer to his/her partner. After getting the answer, the secretary writes
the answer on a star stick and pushes the stick in the ground. In this part, students can exchange their role.
3. A
group/pair who can firstly finish all the questions will be the winner.
Note: This activity is applied outside the classroom. Yesterday (October, 30, 2016), Trenggalek sinau boso Inggris went to Pelang beach and used this game to practice reading comprehension. Students think that they really enjoyed this game.
