Drilling activities to review the use of present continuous tense.
Preparation: Make flashcards with a picture of a different action on each one. The action may include: play, read, write, jump, sing, walk, run, climb, watch TV, open, close, listen, talk, cry, sleep, laugh, stand up, sit down, ride, wash, etc.
The procedures:
1. Show the flashcards one at a time to the whole class and students practice the pronunciation of each verb.
2. After that, the verb flashcards are displayed/arranged in a circle form on the floor. The students have one minute to memorize the verbs, then they write those verbs as many as possible in two minutes.
3. Now, students have "card travelling" activity. Students sit in a circle. The first student takes one card and shows the flashcard to his/her friend beside her/him. Student 1 says "read" and student 2 repeats"read". Then students 2 says to the student 3 "read" and student 3 repeats "read", so it goes on until the flashcard travels full circle.
4. The last activity is "verbs act out". Students are divided into group of two or three. Each group decides who will mime and who will guess. Ask the student who will mime to stand and the others guess what the mime is by calling out, for example, "she is reading/he is reading." For each group has two minutes two mime and guess the flashcards. The group which guesses the most correct flashcards is the winner and they will get a star sticker attached on star chart.
